When to Book Your Studio Photography Session

If youโ€™re looking to book your photography session, itโ€™s important to book for the right time to get the most from your session and to get the best possible images to capture your important moments. Whether youโ€™re booking a maternity session, newborn session or a family photography session, getting the timing right can mean the difference between good and excellent photos.

Maternity Photography Session

To capture your gorgeous baby bump at its finest, itโ€™s best to take photos when youโ€™re between 30 and 35 weeks pregnant. This will mean youโ€™re showing really well, but youโ€™re not yet too uncomfortable to get into certain poses such as lying down, sitting and then getting back up!

Ideally your newborn baby would be between 7-10 days old during their photoshoot. This means theyโ€™ll still be sleepy enough to stay calm, curled up and perfectly posed throughout the photo session! Itโ€™s absolutely possible to photograph them older than this of course, so if you miss that window then donโ€™t worry! Just get in touch as soon as you can to get the session booked in.

Itโ€™s also good to note that we know babies come in their own time. For this reason, we pencil you in around a week after your due date, and adjust the session from there. Itโ€™s important to stay in touch to get you booked in at the perfect time!

Family Photo Session

If youโ€™re booking in a young family, sitter or cake smash photo session, the best time for the session is usually in the morning. This means the kids havenโ€™t worn themselves out before the session, theyโ€™ve usually eaten well at breakfast, and theyโ€™ve got some good smiles left in them for the photos! If your little one is still napping, itโ€™s a good idea to time the photoshoot for when theyโ€™re well rested.
